Jesus Christ is a central figure in a religion that is arguably the most popular and most practiced in our world; Christianity. In this religion, it’s believed that the most reverend character in the holy book of the religion, the Bible, is a heavenly being, most accurately the child of God, who was sent to this world to liberate man from his sinful nature. He achieved this feat by teaching his followers and other multitudes that choose to listen to him, the word of God. Plus, most significantly, he chose to die on the cross for the sin of man, which was a supreme sacrifice that would get us back to the right side of God.
This formed the backbone of the religion called Christianity, plus to be converted from an unbeliever to a believer, that is, to be a Christian, all you have to do is to believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal savior, who died for your sins. The name of Jesus Christ is rather important in Christendom and the religion is even named after Christ in Jesus name, proving how important the name is. Jesus Christ’s importance goes beyond just being a vital figure in Christianity, it is also a vital entity in the measurement of time. Ancient periods are most measured in BC, which means before Christ, or in a more comprehensive way, before the birth of Jesus Christ.
However, Christ is not the surname of Jesus as it is sometimes confused in few contexts, the use of surnames is not commonplace during the time of Jesus on earth. Christ is not a name but more of a word used as a title. This title comes from a Greek word which is interpreted as the anointed one, that is synonymous with the word Messiah. Christ could have been used to describe anyone during the periods it was created. But what we are led to believe according to historical records is that no other person except Jesus was referred to as Christ.
It could have been that there was a purge that was directly aimed at destroying every record of another person who was referred to as Christ in history. Or there was simply no other person who tagged Christ. In Hebrew, an alternative word for the word Christ-like Messiah in English, Moshiach is used by some Jewish sects to refer to some individuals in their history. Spiritually, some sets of individuals believe that anyone who has attained a state of Christ Consciousness is liable to be referred to as Christ.
